Registry note: The Registry normally contains only 1962 Galaxies that are known to exist. A separate file, not on the Registry site, containing the VIN and other known info is maintained for cars such as this one were the info in known, but the status of the car is unknown. Anyone having information such as this on a 1962 Galaxie is encouraged to email it to me for filing. Like me, many former owners of 1962 Galaxies may be searching for their old car and this file may be helpful.

Paint and chrome are all original and in very good condition. It is a pleasure to drive. Car now has 42000 miles. In 1994 I met the orginal owner of the car by pure luck, he was 84 at the time and had ordered the car with few options to save money. Submitted by Dennis Olivieri, 11/25/2007.

No photo available.  290. VIN 2P62X100571, BODY 54A, COLOR VM, TRIM 19, DATE 24H, DSO blank, AXLE 1, TRANS 4
Comments: This Galaxie 500 has been owned by three owners over the years. The first owner sold it in about 1981. It was bought in 1983 by the current owner. It is a daily driver with a bit over 160,000 miles. This is a nice car but not in show condition. Submitted by James Walkington, 12/31/2007.
Registry Note: One of the first! With the production sequence number of 100571 this Galaxie was produced in the very first few days of 1962 production at the Twin Cities assembly plant. The August 24 date confirms that. Could this be the earliest Twin Cities plant survivor???

Comments: This is just a cool old Galaxie 500 that I'm going to put back on the road. Rumor has it that the big hole in the floor board and the torch cut front fender inner wells are evidence of the fact that it had a toploader and 427 in it back in the day. It has a '67 302 in it now, I'd like to find a good 390 or 406 to go in it. Anyway it’s cool and it needs a lot more work to be right.
Thanks.

300. All the way from the Czech Republic. This is an unconventional Registry entry because this is an unconventional 1962 Galaxie Town Victoria, and it is important to document the unusual information on the patent plate of this car. First, it is the only 1962 Galaxie that has come to the attention of the Registry with an Assembly Plant Code for the Atlanta Plant. Second, the sequence number of 100080 indicates that it may have been built or partially built on the first or second day of production of the 1962 Galaxies at that plant. (See also Registry entry number 5 for a very early production ‘62 Sunliner with a scheduled build date of August 11, 1961) Third, the VIN is the only one the Registry has obtained that has the BX. Speedometer indicates speed in Kilometers per hour (200 Km/per hour). Odometer in Kilometers (today 95.000 KM).

Documented evidence of 1962 Galaxie assembly at the Atlanta Plant would be very much appreciated as would be information explaining the other codes on the patent plate pictured above.

The following information about this car is from John Rotella, Mr. Code Cracker in Legendary Ford Magazine and one of the most knowledgeable experts anywhere on the Ford Motor Company and it's cars.

Hello Vladimir

I believe the VIN is actually 2AEX64W100080.
A regular Ford VIN for a US car would be like this: 2A64W100080. The "EX" means it was partially assembled in the United States, and its final assembly was done outside the US.
2 = 1962
A = Atlanta, Georgia assembly plant
64 = Ford Galaxie 500 Town Victoria 4-door hardtop
W = 292 cubic inch V-8 engine
100080 = the 80th Ford scheduled for production at Atlanta for the 1962 model year

I only understand the 75A 8, and 2 codes.
75A = Ford Galaxie 500 Town Victoria 4-door hardtop body style
2 = 3-speed manual transmission with Overdrive
8 = 3.89 to 1 rear axle ratio

The other codes are specific to the country where it was imported originally. I do not know how to interpret them, but you have described the color and trim.

I did not know that "full size" Fords like the Galaxie were built at Atlanta in 1962. However I am guessing that maybe a small number were built there before the Fairlane production started. The 1962 Fairlane was a new-size car for 1962 and its production did not start until later than the other Ford cars.

Because this car was the 80th that was scheduled for production at Atlanta for 1962, it must have been built very early in the model year, probably August of 1961.

The exterior colors of white with a blue roof are very, very unusual. I don't think I have every actually seen such a car. But it was a Ford combination.

I would like to write about this Ford in Legendary Ford Magazine www.legendaryfordmagazine.com if it is OK with you.

Please do participate in the forums www.lovefordsbb.com

Best Regards
John Rotella
