August 6, 2004Well, it's finally back to a rolling chassis. I had to get it on tires soon so that I could get it onto a trailer to take to my new house. The new house has a large pole barn, so that should help with the rest of the restoration. The tires on it now are only for rolling purposes. I will replace them when the car is just about finished. Here's what I've done so far. Dipped, sandblasted, and powder coated the frame, and POR 15'd the inside of the frame. I rebuilt the rear end and had it powder coated. Installed new leaf springs, which I had to assemble myself because I had them powder coated. The leaf spring bushings are poly from ESPO Springs and I used Quickor's own special "Green Grease" to grease them. It's supposed to be a one time deal. Moving to the front, I had the upper and lower control arms powder coated, and installed bushings purchased from Car Quest auto parts. They also had ball joints for my car and were cheaper than any of the catalogs I have. The coil springs are new and powder coated. The spindles are from a 77 Thunderbird. I don't have the rest of the disc brakes on yet. I will create a web site later showing, in detail, how I installed disc brakes on the car. The upper control arms have new control arm bumpers. I have to re-order the lower control arm bumpers, because Dennis Carpenter didn't have them in stock. That's about it for now. I won't be doing much for the rest of this year, because I will be working on my new house, but I plan to start back into it next year. |
